FAQs

Don’t see your Question? Get in contact with our specialists, we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

What is Industrial Refrigeration?

Industrial refrigeration is mechanical equipment that is used to remove heat from any given item. The most common settings for this type of refrigeration include but are not limited to:

  • Food processing
  • Construction
  • Brewing

Chilled materials and components such as water are required on large-scale machinery to mass-produce items. Industrial refrigeration provides the right large-scale machinery to mass-produce items that a typical refrigerator does not have the capacity to keep cool within a certain temperature range.

Industrial refrigeration systems use refrigeration cycles, which is known as the manipulation of heat transference. This creates and maintains the cool conditions for the mass production of products.

Why is Industrial Refrigeration Needed?

Industrial refrigeration is needed for large-scale items. Typical refrigeration does not provide the right machinery to keep large amounts of products within a certain temperature range. Industrial refrigeration promotes the mass production of items that must stay cool for purchase. This type of refrigeration is used for professional environments such as breweries, food production, and restaurants.

What is Mechanical Piping?

Refrigeration piping involves highly complex relationships between the migration and flow of oil and refrigerant. Refrigeration piping systems are a continuous series of compromises. You will want maximum capacity and proper oil return since oil must flow through the compressor cylinders. These provide the proper lubrication to keep the oil circulating with the refrigerant within the refrigerator. Mass velocity of the refrigerant vapor must be strong enough to keep the oil moving throughout the system as oil and refrigerant vapor do not easily mix. Smart Mechanical Solutions are experts at this.

The proper design of mechanical piping system should:

  • Ensure proper refrigerant feed to evaporators;
  • Provide practical refrigerant line sizes without excessive pressure drop;
  • Prevent excessive amounts of lubricating oil from getting trapped in any part of the system;
  • Protect the compressor at all times from loss of lubricating oil;
  • Prevent liquid refrigerant or oil slugs from entering the compressor during operating and idle time; and
  • Maintain a clean and dry system.
What is Industrial HVAC?

Industrial HVAC are complex systems that are designed to provide cooling, heating, and ventilation for large structures and buildings. Your typical HVAC systems are typically found on top of buildings. HVAC systems operate closely with residential HVAC systems. The main difference? They operate on a much larger scale and utilize and implement more complex elements.

Larger-scale HVAC systems typically include the following equipment:

  • Chillers: Chillers cool the water that is distributed through the unit’s cooling coils.
  • Heat Pumps: A heat pump functions like a refrigerator but in reverse, extracting heat from the water or air to warm the building.
  • Heaters: There are two types of industrial heaters:

  • 1) Radiant heaters that use infrared radiation to provide direct heat to objects
  • 2) Hot air furnaces that heat the air by burning fuel.

    Rooftop Units: Rooftop units can be mounted on the roof of a building. This prevents noise pollution. In certain cases, industrial HVAC units can be located on the ground. They push conditioned air through ducts into the building.

    Why Do I Need an HVAC System?

    In order to properly cool, heat, and ventilate a large building for your business, HVAC is an absolute necessity. Operating your business with high-efficiency HVAC systems improves indoor comfort and quality throughout the site. Proper working conditions promote efficiency and productivity throughout the workplace.

    What is the Process To Get An Estimate?

    After our initial interaction, we will schedule an in-person meeting or phone consultation. If we can provide value to you and are a good fit for your refrigeration needs, the next step is to schedule an onsite assessment and provide recommendations for all the needed services including but not limited to repair, installation, engineering, and more. After the job is assessed, we provide you with an estimate of the project.
